Gratitude

Contempt is one of the biggest killers of relationships over time but gratitude can act as an antidote. Psychologist Dr. John Gottman developed gratitude tennis - a paired exercise where players serve and return things they are thankful for.

Exercise:

Gratitude Tennis Game

  1. Set a timer for 3 minutes.

  2. Player one serves up something they are grateful for. It can either be about the person or in general gratefulness.

  3. Player two must return the gratitude with something they are grateful for.

  4. Repeat “serving” gratitudes back and forth to all the players in the game.

  5. Repeat as needed.
